Diesel didn’t cool off in June. Here’s where the market stood – and what it means for carrier margins heading into summer.

June brought the first real pullback since March. The national average fell to $5.02, and the month closed $0.855 below where May ended. June still logged four weeks priced above $5.00. That brings the 2026 total to 14. That is relief at the pump. It is not a reset. Prices remain 39.59% above June 2025, and one month down does not cancel three months of elevated rates. The risk also flips: surcharges built on last month’s prices now recover more than the pump costs, and shippers watch the same index you do. Heading into July, the question is whether your surcharge structure moves down as cleanly as it failed to move up.
